We know it can feel a little scary to bathe your baby by yourself for the first time, but bath time can be a wonderful bonding experience between parents and baby. With enough practice, you will soon be confident enough to bathe your little one on your own.

Be prepared for little “accidents” like pee or poo. Don’t spend too much time in the bath with baby – the whole process should be kept short and sweet.

IMPORTANT NOTE : You should not leave your newborn alone in the bath, not even for a “few seconds”. Do not let your phone distract you as babies can accidentally slip under water. If you must leave the bathroom, bundle up baby in a towel and take him/her along with you.

• • Before you start, make sure the room is warm. Switch off any fans or air conditioner.
  • Next, prepare your bath supplies in the bathroom: a small tub to wash our little ones, a mild baby soap, a washcloth, and some cotton buds/wool. Lay out a dry towel, a clean pair of PETPET® Tape newborn diapers, and clothes nearby in the bedroom.

• • First dab the cotton buds or wool in water and gently wipe the corner of the baby’s eyes and back of their ears. Also wipe the folds of skin under their neck, which can accumulate oil and dirt.
  • We are now ready to bathe our newborn. Babies don’t need to be fully immersed in water to enjoy a nice bath, so just fill the tub up to 3 inches with warm water – enough to submerge their bottom and part of their body.
  • Undress your baby and place their feet first into the water in the tub while always supporting their head and neck with one hand. Use your other hand to cup and regularly pour warm bath water over their body: we don’t want our baby to catch a cold!
  • Use just a little bit of mild baby soap to first wash their scalp and body with the washcloth (too much soap can dry out their delicate skin). Gently rinse their soapy scalp and body with water.
  • Now that baby is clean, carefully carry him out of the bathroom by supporting his neck and bottom. A wet newborn can be quite slippery, so make sure you have a firm grip on him.

• • Bring your newborn over to the laid out towel and quickly pat him dry. Daddy or another adult can also bring a towel to you and
  • After drying your newborn, you can use a mild moisturising baby cream or lotion if his skin appears a bit dry. You don’t need to apply any talcum powder on a newborn.
  • Finally, dress your baby in a pair of PETPET® Tape newborn diapers before putting on his clothes. The softness of the newborn diaper protects his delicate skin, allowing our little newborn to now feel clean, fresh, and ready for the day.
